6. Setup PSS Continuous Recording

8. Playback PSS Recordings
This feature records video over the network from your Dahua device.
The recording can either be continuous or by an alarm event.
In this article I will cover continuous and motion detection recording.
The video will be recorded using Main Stream encoding.
Download the latest version of PSS from our Dahua PSS Software page.
Install PSS and click the desktop shortcut to run the software.
The default user and password is admin
In this example we are going to add a Dahua DVR to the PSS Software.
Click on "Setting Manage", "Device Manage", on the right side menu.

In PSS Device Manager, click the "Add" button.

Enter the Title of the DVR and an optional description.
Enter the IP or Domain Name of the DVR, and the Port Number.

If you use a DDNS service like DynDns enter that name in the IP box.
The "DDNS Enable" checkbox is only for the Dahua Private DDNS Server.
To use the Dahua DDNS Server instead, read this article.
Select "DVR" from the "Type" drop down box.
Enter the user and password for login, and also enter the password in the "Confirm password" box.
Click "Save" to add the new device and "Ok" to close PSS Device Manager.

Your DVR is now added and you can watch Live Video with the PSS Software!!
Click on "Device List" on the right side menu to show the list of devices.
Login by double clicking the name of your DVR.
Optionally you can right click, "Login".
Once logged in the red mark on the icon will go away.
A list of cameras and alarms will be available.

To view the live video select the first video window, right click on a device, then choose "Main Stream" or "Extra Stream". This will load all cameras from that device into the video windows and will connect using the selected stream type. This option is available from PSS 4.05.3 onward.

If you do not have that option in your PSS version you will need to drag the device into the first video window to load all cameras - this will connect in "Main Stream" by default. Or you could select each video window individually and choose "Main Stream" or "Extra Stream" for the camera you want placed there.

To logout right click on your DVR's name, "Logout", or just exit the PSS Software.
By default recorded video is created under the path "C:\PSS\Record".
To change this location click the "Config" icon, and select "Option".
DPI problems - if the text extends off the screen see our PSS DPI fix
Click the button to the right of "Recorded file path" to edit the location.
Click "Ok" to save the changes.
Restart the PSS Software.
If you want to record only on motion detection, skip this step.
Click on "Setting Manage", "Record Plan Config", on the right side menu.

Change the Pack Time for the files (optional), default is 15 minutes per file.
Click "Add" to add a new Recording Plan.
Select the "Device" and "Channel" from the drop down boxes.
Select "Full Day Templet" in the "Schedule Templet" box.
Click the "<- one week" button then click "Ok".

The Recording Plan has now been created.

To start the Recording Plan goto "Tools", "Begin record plan"

Optionally you can use the Top menu or the System Tray menu.

To add the Recording Plan to PSS startup click the "Config" icon, and select
"Option".
Check the "Auto start record plan" box.
Click "Ok" to save the changes.
Restart the PSS software.
This records video from the DVR based on motion detection, video loss, masking, or external alarm.
These options must be enabled on the DVR for this to work.
In this case I will show you how to setup motion detection recording.
Click on "Setting Manage", "Alarm Record Config", on the right side menu.

Select a device channel to be activated by clicking the + next to the device name.
DPI problems - if the text extends off the screen see our PSS DPI fix
In the "Type" drop down box select "Motion Detect" (default).
Select "Full Day Templet" in the "Time Setup" frame.
Click the "<- one week" button.
In the "Activation action" frame select the "Device" and "Channel" to activate when there is a motion detection event for this device channel. For example, if channel 1 picks up motion you can have it activate channel 1 from this device or any channel from any device. You can add multiple channels to be activated.
Change the "Stay time" to the length of time for the activated video to record.

To edit an existing action double click on the action in the list, make changes, then click "Modify".
Click "Ok" to save and exit "Alarm Record Config".
TIP - alarm recording and alarm monitoring can both coincide together
Motion Detection recording has now been added to the PSS Software.
Recording will begin each time you login to the device.
Local record information is saved in a database file called "Record.db" in the PSS data path.
If a file is open it will not be included in the search results until it has been closed and it's information added to the database. This information includes the full path to the video file.
The prefix for PSS video files are "Record" for record plan and "Alarm" for alarm record.
These files are saved in H264 format with the .DAV extention.
To playback local recordings in PSS click the "Playback" icon.
For continuous recordings created by the record plan select "Local Record".
For alarm recordings select "Activation Record" or "Local Record".

Select your device and channel from the drop down boxes.
If using "Local Record" select the "Record" box.
If using "Activation Record" check the desired alarm event.
DPI problems - if the text extends off the screen see our PSS DPI fix
Change the start and end time, and click "Search".
A list of results will be displayed if there are any database records.

Select a video window - it will become highlighted with a green border.
Double click on a result in the list - or check one or several of them - and click "Play".

You can also search for results from other device channels and play those in the remaining video windows. Available options for results include "Delete" (remove the file), "Backup" (save the DAV file), and "To AVI" (convert the DAV to AVI).
