Dahua PSS Tips
For PSS software

1) Save Last Monitor Status

Click the "Config" icon, and select "Option". Check the "Save Last Monitor Status" box, and click "Ok" to save changes. This will bring up the previous multiview and connect all the cameras.

So in this case you can create your custom multiview (with multiple devices if you have any) and then when you start PSS each time that will load automatically. Note: this setting will disable running a task on PSS startup.
2) Login All Devices

Click the "Config" icon, and select "Option". Check the "Login all devices" box, and click "Ok" to save changes. This will simply auto login to all devices in your device list.

3) Load All Cameras

Right click on the Device in the device list and select either "Main Stream" or "Extra Stream" to load all cameras from that device. (PSS 4.05+)

4) Device Health Report

This will enable the "Health Report" button under "Tools" on the right side menu. It is disabled by default.

Click the "Config" icon, and select "Option". Check the "Get all devices' running status" box, and click "Ok" to save changes.

Now you can go to "Tools" and click "Health Report" to view information about each connected device.

5) Multi Channel Playback

This adds a new checkbox called "All Channel" to the "MultiChannel" area of PSS Playback.

When you check this box all channels are added to the search and playback for the selected channel. To enable this feature go to the PSS data path and edit PSS_Config.ini. Under "[Version_Info]" change the value for "PSS_PlayBackAllChannel" to a 1. (PSS 4.03+)

[Version_Info]
PSS_PlayBackAllChannel =1

6) No More Alarm Information Popup!

Get rid of that pesky "Alarm Record" window which pops up when you login to a device.

Click the "Config" icon, and select "Option". Uncheck the "Auto pop up alarm information dialogue" box, and click "Ok" to save changes.

7) No More Status Popup!

To get rid of that annoying status popup, go to the PSS skin path and delete "tasknoticbg.bmp"

8) Auto Login PSS

When you start PSS a login box will normally appear asking for a username and password. If you only have a single user then you can get rid of this.

Click the "Config" icon, and select "Option". Check the "Auto login PSS" box, and click "Ok" to save changes. Now the login box won't come up anymore.

Or use my software that does this for you: Dahua PSS Auto Login

9) No Exit Password

This removes the need to enter a password when closing PSS.

Go to the PSS data path and edit PSS_Config.ini. Under "[Version_Info]" remove the value for the field SUser_PSW. Then under "[Login_Info]" remove the value for "Password".

[Version_Info]
SUser_ID=admin
SUser_PSW=

[Login_Info]
UserName=admin
Password=

Or use my software that does this for you: Dahua PSS Auto Login

10) PSS Help System

In case you didn't realize there is a Windows Help file in the PSS Skin path called "PSS_help_EN.chm". This may provide some answers to questions not found in the PSS User's Manual PDF.
11) 32-channel DVR

If you want to configure a 32-channel DVR using PSS make sure you are using version 4.04.6 or newer. Anything less and you will not be able to edit the "DETECT" or "ALARM" sections. Additionally if you are using firmware version 2.606.0024.4 or 2.608+ then you need the newer PSS to edit the "ENCODE" section properly.

12) PSS Files Explained

Default PSS Install Paths (English)
This includes the executable file, dependency files, global settings, and user manual ..

32bit XP/Vista/7 = [PROGRAM FILES]\Pro Surveillance System(EN)
64bit Vista/7 = [PROGRAM FILES X86]\Pro Surveillance System(EN)

Default PSS Data Paths (English)
This includes all the user settings, data files and skin folder ..

32bit XP = [PROGRAM FILES]\Pro Surveillance System(EN)
32bit Vista/7 UAC OFF = [PROGRAM FILES]\Pro Surveillance System(EN)
64bit Vista/7 UAC OFF = [PROGRAM FILES X86]\Pro Surveillance System(EN)
32bit Vista/7 UAC ON = [LOCAL APP DATA]\VirtualStore\Program Files\Pro Surveillance System(EN)
64bit Vista/7 UAC ON = [LOCAL APP DATA]\VirtualStore\Program Files(x86)\Pro Surveillance System(EN)

Vista/7 UAC
If any changes are made to the settings or data from within PSS it will first try to write those changes to the default install path. If it cannot write to that path due to UAC being enabled it will then write the changed files to the user's virtual store under local app data. If you disable UAC at a later date it will then revert back to the default install path and any changes you previously made will not be used (Use the import/export feature for backup and restore of your user settings/data). You can however copy files to the default install path manually, but with UAC enabled you will not be able to edit and save them from within that path.

Windows Installer
If any installed files are removed from the PSS path, Windows Installer (msiexec.exe) will revert those back to the original. This means that if you create a custom skin by removing images, those images would also be copied back to the skin folder. To get around this replace the PSS shortcuts with direct shortcuts to the files. Alternatively you could even move the entire PSS install folder to another location and use that path instead. Note: if data files are removed PSS will simply recreate them itself.

Setting Files
Global settings are saved to PSS_Config.ini, user settings are saved to UserLogin.ini.

Data Files
Video from alarm/record plans are saved to "C:\PSS\Record" by default - this location can be changed in the PSS options. Once the first DAV file is saved and finalized PSS will add the recording path to a user database called "record.db". This file contains the full path and names of the recorded DAV files. XML files are used for all other data such as devices, tasks, alarm/record plans, etc.

Additional Users
When logging into PSS with the default "admin" user account, the data files are located at the top level of the PSS data path. If you create additional users they will each have their own individual sub folders.

Import/Export
You can export your user settings and data and this can be restored into any PSS installation on any computer. This would include devices, tasks, alarm/record plans, etc. Click on "Setting Manage", "User Config", and select either Export or Import. Careful though as when you import it will overwrite all the user settings and data for that current user - this does not include global settings.

If you notice any errors in this information please contact us.
This may vary between PSS and OS versions.
